Clinical, Operational, and Economic Benefits of a Digitally Enabled Wound Care Program in Home Health: Quasi-Experimental, Pre-Post Comparative Study

One of the Largest of Its Kind: Home Health Wound Care Research with 14,000 Patients

This research article shares the clinical, operational, and economic advantages of implementing a digitally enabled wound care program (DWCS) in home health environments. The study compared 14 home health branches using a DWCS to 27 control branches, analyzing data from over 14,000 patients. 

These findings emphasize the importance of incorporating DWCSs into wound care programs to address increasing demands, clinician shortages, and rising health care costs while maintaining positive clinical outcomes. 

  • 15.7% faster healing of wounds 
  • 4.3% fewer skilled nursing visits-per-episode 
  • $958k in projected annual savings
