Introduction: Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center launched a centralized wound care program to deliver scalable, standardized, high-quality wound care. To implement the innovative model of care, they partnered with Swift Medical to implement an AI-powered wound management platform. 

Objective and methods: This study assessed the impact of the full implementation of digital wound technology (Swift Skin & Wound) as part of a comprehensive wound care program on the incidence of hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) over 6 months. 4,553 patients were included from June 2022 to September 2023. 

Results:  

• Comparing the four months prior to the full implementation to the four months immediately preceding, there was an 11.2% reduction in HAPI rates. 

• The continued implementation of the wound care program improved HAPI rates by 93% one year after full implementation, highlighting the importance of strict and continuous adherence for sustained and notable success.
