Introduction: RecoverCare Heartland (RecoverCare) partnered with Swift Medical to enable more standardized wound assessments that accurately measure wounds and track healing factors to optimize care management plans.

Objective and methods: This study aimed to compare the prevalence and incidence rates of pressure injuries, healing time, hospitalization rates and volume of F-686 citations across 26 RecoverCare skilled nursing facilities that incorporated Swift Skin & Wound. Data was received over a seven-month period from January to July 2023 and compared with the data from the same period in the previous two years.

Results:

  • The pressure injury prevalence rate improved by 38%.
  • A 46% improvement in the incidence of acquired pressure injuries resulted.
  • There was a 22% improvement in the 30-day hospitalization rate.
  • A reduction in the days to heal a pressure injury represented a 46% faster healing time.
  • The number of F-686 citations was reduced by 8%.
