Introduction: A digital wound care management solution promotes staff productivity and clinical efficiency by empowering licensed practical nurses (LPNs) to take a more active role in wound care without compromising quality. 

Objective and methods: This quality improvement study evaluated the impact of a digital wound management solution on altering the proportion of LPNs conducting home care visits compared to registered nurses (RNs) and the influence on clinical outcomes. 29 home health agencies were assessed including 20,733 wound patients with 243,745 wound assessments from January 2021 to December 2022. 

Results:  

• A favorable shift of 21.3% in visit staffing was observed, increasing the utilization of LPNs conducing wound care home visits. 

• The shift in staffing didn’t compromise the quality of care. In fact, agencies experienced a 34% faster healing time for wounds.
